The Insider Sessions with Erika Iverson
The Insider Sessions are inspired by the emotion, power, and soul that go into one, simple song. The aim is to get closer and more personal to the music and the art. The acoustic sound, I believe, is perfect for this. It allows you to hear only instruments, only voice, no background fuzz, and nothing channeling the noise but our own ears. The artists will choose their own place to play, sometimes in a van, sometimes on a bus, sometimes simply in an alley way; either way each session is authentic and personal. So take a look at these artists, some are from Iowa, some just passing through, and as you'll sometimes find, just getting started. Listen and enjoy the sounds that erupt throughout our beautiful state.

Nathaniel Rateliff is from a town of fewer than 30 people in Missouri, not much of a town it would seem. But from that stark, quiet beginning comes a voice that is reminiscent of many voices. His small town upbringing is merely a window through which he has filtered his musical soul. In his songs you can hear the echo of lives lived and changed and birthed and given and taken... When I met him at the Daytrotter Barnstormer show in West Liberty he was a smiling, mysterious, yet very friendly guy. As he sang in the back seat of my friends car we both wanted to close our eyes and listen. The tone, the melody, everything felt to me a deep mahogany. Rich, wise, somber, and hauntingly precious.
