Methods of Transferring Embroidery Designs to your Fabric

Thanks to the internet, we have many embroidery designs and patterns that are waiting to be transferred to fabrics as final products. The main question remains on how to transfer these patterns and images to the fabrics. The following are some of the most common ways of transferring embroidery designs to fabrics

Carbon

You can purchase dressmakers carbon from your favorite fabric shop. The package comes with several colors; around five in number. Dressmaker’s carbon is graphite and wax-free and works similarly to carbon paper. Once you have your carbon, place your fabric on a strong, smooth surface and tape the carbon onto the textile. On top of the carbon, tape your design. Use an old ball point or a stylus to trace your design onto the fabric.

Iron-on Transfer Paper

You can use laser printing ink to transfer a pattern on a piece of fabric with an iron. Read the instructions on the package and print your pattern on the iron-on transfer paper. Do this in a reverse way since you are aiming at a mirror image of the design. After this step, place your iron-on transfer paper on your fabric and iron. After ironing you now have your embroidery design on your fabric.

Tracing

If you’re using a piece of light fabric, you can easily transfer your pattern onto the fabric directly while relying on a light source such as a window, light box. Use a water-soluble transfer pen, finely sharpened ordinary pencil or a chalk-based marking pencil to mark the lines.

Pencils and Heat Transfer Pens

You can use a trusty iron-on transfer pencil or pen to transfer your pattern to fabric if you wish to iron-on transfer your design, but it isn’t available in the heat-transfer form. First, print your embroidery pattern onto the paper (it should be in reverse) and use a transfer pen to trace the pattern onto the fabric. With the paper ink side placed on the right side of the fabric, use your iron to transfer the pattern to the fabric as per the manufacturer’s directions.

Printable Wash-Away Transfer

You can print your design directly onto his fabric using a sticky material. This means you’ll avoid the process of printing the pattern, tracing, and ultimately transferring onto the fabric. Your process should start by printing your embroidery pattern directly on to the sticky sheet. Place the sticky side of the sheet on the fabric. It’ll stick onto your fabric acting as a stabilizer as you stitch. After stitching immerse your fabric in water, and interestingly the paper miraculously vanishes.
